what's that?

What's that?  We answer this question no fewer than 50 times a day - even during the week when he's at school most of the day! One day he pointed to a freckle on my arm and asked the all important question... so I answered "a freckle." To which, Zane promptly responded "speckle!"  I suppose he was correct :)

We had some great sunshine the end of last week through the weekend (proof of the blue sky above!), so Zane and Molly got lots of outside time in.  Our driveway was covered in sidewalk chalk graffiti until it washed away in the rain today!  I love that Zane tells you what he's "making" now when he makes his scribbles and circles and dots.  He drew Molly, Daddy, a cat, a dog, and a school bus, and he didn't seem too impressed with anything I drew until I attempted a bicycle.

Zane had another fun swimming class on Saturday morning and soccer class on Sunday morning.  He now starts to sing Humpty Dumpty ("dumpy dumpy... on a wall... FALL!") because it's his most favorite part of swimming - climbing out and standing on the edge to jump back in (with me holding his hands), but he actually does a full on jump into the water now.  Then giggles and says "again!"  Soccer is still a big hit after class number 2, and he even mentioned it tonight before bed.

I also got a good chuckle tonight before he fell asleep... after we read his mandatory "truck book, the caterpillar book, the bunny book, and the I love you book" (Zane's titles), I usually list out a bunch of fun adjectives about him like sweet, smart, silly, chatty, etc.  Generally he just keeps talking about something else or stays quiet, but tonight he repeated, "I'm handsome" a few times after I added handsome to the list.  Silly and handsome - that's our Zane!

st patty's day!

Zane had fun celebrating St. Patty's Day yesterday (he is 3/8 Irish afterall!).  We had a big break through at his swim class in the morning - he was excited about the shower!  He actually asked for "more shower," and then called himself a "big kid!"  He was quite proud! :)

We also got to watch the snow!  Yep, it's mid-March, so snow totally makes sense, right?  It was too warm out to stick, but it was still fun to watch.  Another highlight of the day was checking out an earthworm while we were walking Molly and puddle stomping.  I eventually got him to walk away from the worm to look for another puddle, and he said "bye, worm! have a nice day!"
This morning, we had another fun adventure - Zane's very first soccer class! I wonder if that makes me a soccer mom?  Ha!  It was a fun way for him to burn off some energy and hang out with some different kids.  He was a little unsure for the first 5-10 minutes, but then was jumping right into all of the drills that Coach Allen set up.  I think getting to stomp on bubbles really helped loosen him up!  At bedtime, he was still excited about the stamps he got on his hands at the end of class.

Last week we took him to have his 2 year pictures taken.  We should get proofs back sometime in the next week... I can't wait to see them!  The previews she showed us on the camera were really cute. :)  And we may have even gotten a picture of all 3 of us together... as the photographer put it - proof that the kid in all of the pictures we take has parents!

boys!

So the big news around here is that we found out Zane is getting a little brother!!!  My anatomy ultrasound was last Thursday, and we attempted to have our first conversation with Zane about his baby brother.  It lasted about two minutes, and he thought all of the belly talk was pretty funny.  "Baby" and "belly" are some of his favorite B words, so who knows what he thought we were talking about!  He gets pretty excited about babies these days (he's clear about being a big kid now, in case there was any question about that), but we'll see what he thinks of his very own baby brother this summer!

After a long break, Zane started a new session of swimming lessons at the Y this weekend.  He still has some issues with showering before and after the pool, so he was super clingy at the start of class.  I literally let go with both arms when we were in the pool, and he didn't budge. :)  But then he finally relaxed and giggled and had a good time.  He's been "swimming" and blowing bubbles in the bathtub a bunch again, so I think he liked it!  We'll see how long I can squeeze into a swimsuit... the belly is definitely popping out faster this time!

Zane also has a new teacher at school... another Ms. Danielle!  She used to be the toddler room teacher at his school, but moved to the East coast for a couple years.  She's back in Seattle, and the kids really seem to be handling the switch pretty well.

I also forgot to mention that Zane finally got to experience one of our favorite foods around here.... peanut butter!!! :) He ate his first pb&j a couple of days before his 2 year check up with no reaction. He still takes almond butter to school though because a couple of his friends have peanut allergies.  Also yummy, but he's been eating that for a year now!  His switch to 2% milk was pretty much a non-event, and his doctor said we could even switch him to 1% or skim, so maybe we'll try another switch in a few months.
