March 2014
This month started out with a quick one day drip to San Francisco for me for work, and the boys and Molly did just fine without me around. :) Caden even managed to escape another round of hand, foot and mouth disease at school. His teacher took these sweet pictures of one of his friends pushing him on the swing.
We had a fun trip to the zoo. Zane loves this big puddle with the hippo statue!
Caden had more fun looking for animals this time.
Zane's second soccer game was that first weekend, and he had lots of fun. He's no. 2 in the picture.
Daddy even practiced with him after the game. All of the kids get a turn playing goalie, and that was new to Zane.
Caden was really fascinated with our new ladder.
He inspected it very closely!
He's been getting more crafty about finding ways to get into trouble...
And he even sported an awesome bathtub mohawk. These two old sippy cups have easily always been the boys' most favorite bath toys. Typically they each have one when they're both in the tub, so one bonus of the occasional solo bath is getting to use both cups.
Zane's 4 year check up was Monday, March 10th. He weighed in at 40 lbs 3 oz and measured 3'7" tall. It was the first time they asked him to read the eye chart with shapes, but he got nervous and didn't finish. Everything else went really well, and he even got to try to copy a few shapes, like a circle, square, diamond and plus sign, on a piece of paper for his chart. His doctor explained that there is usually a big shift that occurs between 4 and 5 years in how kids see things, like the plus sign. Zane drew it as one vertical line with two short horizontal lines almost touching the middle line, and next year he should just draw two lines with one crossing the other. While not fun, Zane did get to finish up all of his immunizations he needs before kindergarten, so he won't need any at next year's check up.
Zane was still a little distracted when he played goalie during games...
Caden started saying "yay!" this month. We even had several yes/no conversations; I bet you can guess which one Caden said.
We celebrated St Patrick's day, and I had to work really hard to get this picture of them together. Eventually what worked was singing their favorite version of "Row, Row, Row Your Boat":
Row, row, row your boat, gently down the stream
Merrily, merrily, merrily
Life is but a dream;
Rock, rock, rock your boat down the jungle stream
If you see an alligator
Don't forget to scream!!!!
Toward the end of the month, we took a little 2 1/2 hour road trip to Seabrook for a weekend getaway, and Molly even got to join us. The little house we stayed in ("Ruff Seas") was really cute and extremely dog friendly.
We had a movie night and watched the original "The Lorax."
Molly lounged by the fireplace.
And we all went out exploring around the neighborhood, beach and playground. The boys were also thrilled that the house had a hot pool (aka, hot tub). We all agreed that we should go back sometime!
We have a publishing company!
