last first holiday

The week of July 1st, Caden came down with a fever on Monday. I stayed home with him on Monday, and Tuesday and Wednesday we alternated working from home while the backup care nanny, Natalie, snuggled Caden. Poor baby! When we took him to the pediatrician, he had an ear infection and started a round of antibiotics.


Thankfully, he was already starting to feel better on Thursday, the 4th of July, which was the last of Caden's first holidays. Zane got to bake with daddy and make "the cake" to take over to a friend's barbecue later in the afternoon. We bailed on the party well before bedtime since Caden wasn't feeling totally better yet, and they were both fast asleep by the time the fireworks started around 10 that night.


We all went back to our usual routine on Friday, and then Zane and I went down to Alki on Saturday morning to check out the pirates landing at the beach for Sea Fair. It was really crowded, but we had a good time playing and looking out for all the pirates walking around. I almost got a picture of Zane with a burly looking pirate, but he got nervous and we changed plans. :)
We had a couple of big milestones, Caden pulled up on the coffee table cubes in the living room (his first time pulling up on anything other than the bathtub!), and Zane declared that he was now big enough to sleep in his big bed. He'd slept in it a while ago, but then chose to climb into his crib for a while. He said he would sleep in his big bed when he was bigger, and then let us know when he was in fact bigger, just like with potty training.
